Description

It is about a realistic version of the legendary ship Argo, the prehistoric ship of 50 oars of the 14th century B C, which took part in the Argonaut campaign, against the winds. The construction commenced in 2004 and was completed in 2007, while there were used shipbuilding techniques of the antiquity. Built without a frame from semi-finished wood from Pelion, connected to tenons and molars, while at the same time an expensive and rare material, brass was used instead of nails. In 2008, an experimental journey of 650 miles was realized, that lasted 8 weeks, which started from Volos to the Adriatic and went to 28 ports (Chalkida, Piraeus, Patra, Preveza, Corfu, Aghioi Saranta and so on. In the journey volunteers participated, who had no special physical training, however they were normal people such as students, teachers, private employees and the like. Its presence revives the legend of the Argonaut campaign and participates in great events, remaining the eternal symbol of the city.

During the summer months it is usually found at the coast line of Volos, at the starting point of Argonauts and Jason’s Mythical journey, while in winter it is being maintained.
