Description

The Carnival in Greece is one of the celebrations that reunite children and adults to experience its magic. The locals and the visitors will enjoy three weeks of entertainment since the celebration of the Carnival entails dancing and singing. The whole city of Volos is crowded with disguised children and older people, while at the cafeterias, mainly in “Volonaki”, parties are organized daily. The celebration culminates the last Sunday of the festivity, called the Carnival Sunday. In the evening of that day, after a big carnival parade at the coast of Volos, to which the whole city participates, the locals burn the King of Carnival signaling the ending of the celebration. The next day, called Clean Monday, Carnival ends and is replaced by Lent, the greatest fasting of Christianity, which lasts until Easter.  According to tradition, the children make and fly a kite, filling the sky of the city with colors.
