Description

The restaurant known as Georgaras is one of the oldest (1970) and most famous taverns of the area. It is a family business and it is based on the father of the family after whom it was named…Georgaras…who is an expert on the traditional cuisine and more. He is passionate and you can certainly understand it by tasting his dishes. Due to the fact that he is very good and the oldest (since 1968) in the village, when Vizitsa was awarded with the Golden Apple in 1989 (Vizitsa was chosen to be the most traditional settlement on Pelion) a journalist wrote that … If you have visited Vizitsa and you have not eaten at Georgaras’ restaurant is like visiting Athens and not visiting Acropolis.

As for the ingredients used, most of these are of their own production such as roosters, oil, rabbits and zigouri.

For dessert, they offer loukoumades with honey of their production (greek donuts with honey) or yogurt with honey or fruit such as apples or Mrs Artemis’ sweets, who makes the most delicious pies-pepper pies, chicken pies, mushroom pies and so on.

Their bouzouki is always ready to be played. Many times there are customers who bring their instruments and a feast takes place.

Tips

  • The specialties of the tavern are: Zigouri cooked in the greaseproof paper, rooster cooked in wine or with noodles, goat with sour trahana, kid with lemon, “stamnaki”, “exohiko”, mpoumpari, wild boar stew and many other cooked dishes as well as meat roasted after being ordered.
  • The tavern is open on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from 10:00 till late at night, from 10th July until 10th September. It is open at celebrations and on three day holidays. The rest of the year it is open after 17:00 in the evening.
