Description

The name reminds that Volos is the birthplace of one of the most important Italian painters: Giorgio de Chirico. Although, his art is not exhibited in the Center, the place was named after Giorgio de Chirico to honor him and it constitutes a considerable artistic landmark in Volos. Beyond the various and important exhibitions of Greek as well as International artists that are hosted regularly at the basement on the Centre, on the first floor there is permanently exposed the gallery- donation of the collector named Alexandros Damtsas, with almost 500 paintings from all the important artistic movement of the 19th and the 20th century.

Subsequently, the Hadjikyriakos -Gikas works of art can be admired, such as the “Foliage” and the “Birds”. Moreover, black and white pictures from the society of Volos, such as street and the church of Panagia Goritsa in the area of Anavros. In this place, lithographs and etchings representing the Revolution of 1821 can be found.

Open

The Giorgio de Chirico Art Centre is open from Tuesday to Friday 10:00 – 13:00 & 18:00 – 21:00. On Saturday it is open 10:00 – 13:00.

Access

  • On foot through Ermou street, by city bus number 1, by car.
  • In the Museum there is infrastructure for people with disabilities.

Entrance

Free.

Tips

  • Tours inside the centre upon request.
  • Group tours can be realized up to 50 people.
