Description

As its name reveals, the museum owes its existence to an admirer of tradition and of works of traditional art: Kitsos Makris, who took care of collectible treasures in his Pelion architecture residence that was built in 1955. In this very beautiful and traditional building unfolds in a unique way, the folklore of the 18th and the 19th century through paintings, frescos and art of important folklore painters, wood carving, coppersmith items, sculpture and works of art from the region, mostly from Pelion. Obvious and impressive are Theofilos’ touches, whose Kitsos Makris was the first studier, while his own works of art are presented, such as the mosaic mermaid on one of the walls in the house. Admirer of the folklore art and the books, Kitsos Makris, who has written a plethora of books concerning his collection, has bequeathed to the civilization a library of 4000 titles. Simultaneously, in the house there are 4000 photographs and 2500 slides on many of which works of art are represented that no longer exist. In this shelter for art and knowledge, the creator’s presence is perceivable and especially pleasant. As long as you enter his office, you will understand that –apart from slight interventions- it has remained the same, waiting for his owner: his glasses are leaning in a rough way on the dresser, while on the ceiling, the stars that he created to relax, inspire and make you dream, seem to light the hope that there will always be people to preserve the Greek art and the civilization.
