    Description

The years of the Resistance and the history of 1941-1944, keep their own place in Volos. Specifically, on the first floor of a newly built, two-storey house in Nea Ionia, this special to our country history, unfolds through photographs and paintings of Nikos Stournaras, who imprinted on canvas the people that stared and circumstances that occurred in Thessaly in the years of German Occupation. The visitors can see the newspaper “Thessaly” informing the people about the declaration of war.

In the next room, there are objects such as helmets, binoculars, guns and other stuff of the rebels whereas special impression provokes the photograph of a sixteen year old woman rebel that instead of the adolescence carefree, she fought on the mountains against the conquerors.

Another photograph attracting attention is that of “Papa-Anypomonos” the legendary archimandrite Germanos Dimakos and the trusty captain Aris Velouhiotis. On the second floor, there is rich footage that presents women and men of the Resistance and ELAS, buildings and residences bombarded, and mostly victims-heroes of the Occupation. As the emotion increases, it is worth honoring the war dead people by reading the log table death from Achilopouleio Hospital. Then, other photographic documents exist to remind the vindication of so many sacrifices, representing moments from the celebration of the liberation.

On the same floor, currencies from that period (drachmas) are exhibited, as well as food distribution releases. Moreover, there are administrative documents, letters and clippings with messages of love and support that the couples exchanged during the war.
