Description

It was a family business based in Athens headed by Evaggelos Papastratos and his brothers (Epameinondas, Ioannis and Sotiris) were shareholders. It was built in Volos, in 1926. This family made sponsorships and donations to considerable works. In Greece, cigarettes ASSOS Papastratou were very popular until the import of foreign cigarettes in the ‘70s and ‘80s. The tobacco warehouse was located at the coast of Volos and it was constituted of a complex of two warehouses. The first (1926) does not exist today, while the second which was built in 1935, is the one existing nowadays at the coast with the two characteristic domes. It stopped functioning after the World War II because American tobacco industries invaded in Europe and the Greek tobacco industry started to fall. In 1985, it was bought by the University of Thessaly, which is accommodated up to this day.
