    Description

The building of the station was built in 1884. Next to the station the neoclassic administrative building was constructed in the years 1902-1904 in architectural plans of E. De Chirico. In the past years the first floor was a residence and it constitutes up to this day a sample of the architectural expression of the city, as it is a museum nowadays. For the past 12 years, it hosts a railway, curio and documentary material, which travels the visitor at the times of growth in Volos. The content of the Museum is old, rare photographs, costumes, old telegraphs, primitive gauges, ticket offices of the 19th century from wood and brazen, as well as different old items that used in the daily function of the railway. The goal of the Museum is to highlight the willingness that had the people to improve the life and communication conditions at that time, through old and unique items, as the city life was inseparable to the railway station. In the exterior, the royal carriage with the golden coat of arms can be admired, a luxurious and unique small carriage, as well as the prime carriage that has transported Elefterios Venizelos in 1912.

Since 1885, the first part (Volos-Lechonia) of the small (rail width: 60 cm) steam functioned. The rolling material was of Belgian construction. Studier and constructor was the Italian mechanic E. De Chirico.
