    Description

It is reasonable that the Cathedral of Volos is dedicated to the protector of the sea and the seamen.  The patron Saint of the capital of Magnesia protects the city and its residents from where its heart beats, the commercial pedestrian street of Ermou. Entering the big and especially tidied yard which constitutes the meeting point for the locals and the place where a plethora of events occur, an impressive building is seen, dressed in carved, colorful stones. Holly awe provokes the imposing mosaic painting of Aghios Nikolaos-Ellie Voila’s work –  as well as those of Jesus and the Mother of God in the east side-work of Pavlos Sarfatis-while definitely awe provokes the belfry of unique art, built by Italian craftsmen based on the plans of Evaristo De Chirico-father of the famous painter-in baroque style. In the Church, beyond the rich and considerable Saints paintings, the relics of Aghios Nikolaos can be worshiped.
