Description

Over the hill named Kastraki, the human presence in an organized form is obvious since the beginning of the 7th millennium until the Middle Bronze Age, in 2000 B C. Today, the visitor can admire the beautiful village with the 837 residents and the panoramic view as well as visit the organized archaeological place in Sesklo. Little stone foundations from small dwellings, furnaces, storage systems, places for food preparation and accommodation are saved. Moreover, the wall coat from clay can be observed as well as three internal struts found in the residence of Keramea. In the Newer Neolithic Era, the settlement was surrounded by a system of circular stone enclosure, with central part the Large Mansion which was located on the higher part of the hill. In the wider area of Sesklo, Hercules sanctuary has been discovered with important findings on one of which the hero’s name is written on an Archaic Period inscription.

Open

The archaeological area of Sesklo is open daily apart from Monday 08:30 – 15:00.
