Description

The library is connected historically with the “School in Milies” (Miliotiki Scholi)  founded in 1815 and with the three important spirit and letters  personalities, Anthimos Gazis, Gregorios Konstantas and Daniel Filipides. The school beyond the destructions that had undergone in the Revolution of 1821, stopped functioning in1844 when Konstantas died. At the expense of Krystalia Ikonomaki from Milies, in the memory of her husband Georgios, the building of the library was founded in 1928 next to the square of the village and the historical temple of Aghioi Taxiarhes, for the extant books and the equipment of the School to be saved. The building was renovated and a second floor was built in 1974 in the plans of the architecture Argyris Filippides from Milies.

The historical department of the library contains 1658 titles of books in multiple publications and copies, printed since 1497 till today. Currently, the library numbers in the collection almost 3.355 old printed books as well as 116 manuscripts, almost 1000 loose documents and items with special interest that belonged to the School from Milies, such as supervisory bodies of the School and the flag that Anthimos Gazis raised in the Revolution.

Alongside with the historical department there is the contemporary lending department that disposes almost 13000books and magazines, is constantly enriched with the new books and is being computerized.
