Firikia are small apples and are distinguished for their aroma and sweet taste. On Centaurs’ mountain this variety is grown since the 18th century, as many called it “Centaurs’ apple”, while until 1960 it was produced only on Pelion. Moreover, the specific variety is rare because it takes almost 15 years to give fruit, and it gives fruit once in two years, which makes it more outstanding. It is officially named “Firiki from Pelion” from the European Committee. Moreover, it is a traditional spoon sweet in our area, making people from other places in Greece as well as foreigners seek the recipe of our delicious sweet.
